I was reading over an old post concerning “the matrix” and I was noticing something that resonates with recent thoughts considering the potential variation in human life. The lack of a definition bugged me, and so here we are.
There are really multiple. The first, most important, is the self. This matrix is all of your beliefs, observations, and narratives you are aware of. This is the most important simply because of how critical beliefs are to what can be observed.
The next one is really a set of matrices of varying sizes. This is of course the environment which includes all the people, places, and things. This stimulates new narratives.
To exit the matrix is to.. exit all narratives; step before all beliefs; release all observations. To exit the matrix is to act according to the pure potential of thought.
As a matter of fact, it is not entirely possible to exit the matrix. To exit fully would be to embrace all impulses. We thus know it is more beneficial to retain one or more beliefs that support cooperation and community, and thus a matrix.
I always get the suspicion when listening to others speak about the Matrix that they don’t quite mean it in both these ways. I think for most people, they seem to mean an environmental matrix to which we are therefore victims to having been born into. This sort of thinking reveals itself through how these people engage in out-grouping when referring to people as “NPCs”. It has this idea that awareness of the structure frees you from the structure. This doesn’t appear to be the case though, yet when someone calls another person an NPC. What they are really saying is the other person is unaware of narrative loops being forced on and around them. Yet deeper inspection reveals to us that an NPC would merely be anyone who is unaware of some portion of the matrix structure. Structures that exist both within and without. This will necessarily include everyone, and thus everyone is an NPC.
Granted that is likely just the nature of such observations. One can be aware of another in great detail and miss those details in themself. Or vice versa. So while everyone is an NPC, so too is everyone a first person observer and thus the most aware in their own frame of reference. Thereby rendering nobody to be an NPC.
